Ostra opened in 2019 with five treatment rooms, a short list of things we do well and a firm belief that a salon should be a calm place to spend an hour.
Built to feel nothing like a shopping centre.
Ingrid Sato spent years in busy day spas, where appointments ran back to back and the clients most in need of a quiet moment often got the least. She opened Ostra to do it differently.
We chose Westfield Belconnen so the studio would be easy to reach, with parking, buses and a coffee on the way. Then we built it to feel like somewhere else entirely: limewash walls, timber, soft lighting and treatment rooms with proper doors.
The team is still small enough that Ingrid knows most clients by name, and that’s how we’d like to keep it.
Good products, clean rooms and a proper conversation.
Products
We use professional Australian skincare and nail ranges, chosen for how they perform on sensitive, changeable Canberra skin rather than for their packaging. If you’d like something for home, we’ll suggest one or two things at most.
Hygiene
Fresh linen for every client. Single-use files, buffers, wax spatulas and mascara wands. Metal tools are cleaned and sterilised between appointments, and we never double-dip wax.
Consultation
Every first visit begins with a short consultation and health form. We ask about skin, allergies and medication so treatments are safe, and we always explain what we’re about to do before we do it.
Small, practical habits.
We’d rather do a few sensible things consistently than make big promises.
Towels are washed on full loads and line-dried when Canberra’s weather allows. Treatment rooms use refillable pump bottles, and our empty professional containers go back to the supplier’s recycling program.
